The heart of sports is connecting people and sharing their story . . .
I am preparing academically and vocationally for a sports broadcast journalism career. At first glance, others may conclude that I am an amateur athlete who loves to talk about sports, especially college football and basketball. However, my interest in sports extends beyond the games and players themselves. Sports connect people from diverse backgrounds and center them on a collective effort. Sports also link people to their nostalgic past. This nostalgia is often recalled in memories of former stadiums, stories of prior championships, and recollections of intergenerational relationships. Both playing and observing sports bring some levity to life. The heart of sports is connecting people. This human connection lies at the foundation of my passion for sports. I am interested in the relationships, the interplay, and the community building that result from the commonality of individuals aligned together for a cause. The story of this human connection drives my interest in sports and my desire to explore sports broadcast journalism as a possible career.
